Pack Secures First Series Win Over Boston College

RALEIGH – The Pack softball team defeated Boston College, 8-4, in game two to secure the series win Saturday afternoon at Dail Stadium. 

The Eagles took an early lead after one scored with bases loaded and one out on a wild pitch. Redshirt-junior pitcher Aisha Weixlmann recorded a huge strikeout to slow Boston College and help end the scoring opportunity. 

The Pack struggled to build momentum on the offensive side of things and went scoreless through the second inning. 

To start the bottom of the third, Haley Haislip and Ellie Goins were walked by Eagles pitcher Abby Dunning. Rebecca Murray stepped up to the plate with no outs and reached on a fielder’s choice while Goins was out at second. Katlyn Pavlick stepped into the box and Murray stole second after she was thrown her first pitch. On a 1-1 count, Pavlick drilled a ball over the left field wall to record a three run homer and her fifth of the season. The hit gave NC State a 3-1 lead over the Eagles, their first of the afternoon. Freshman Amanda Hasler stepped into the box and was hit by the second pitch thrown her way. Fellow freshman Gabi Wilson took over for Hasler at first base as a pinch runner and the next two Pack members to step into the box were walked. With bases loaded, Nadia Sykes bunted, attempting to allow Wilson to score, but the Eagles got Wilson out at the plate and Sykes reached on a fielder’s choice.
