‘Caps Draw 1-1 with Galaxy in Carson

CARSON, CA – Vancouver Whitecaps FC recorded a 1-1 draw against fellow Western Conference side LA Galaxy this Saturday evening at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The first half began with Vancouver winning a set piece opportunity. Following the play, midfielder Julian Gressel crossed in a ball to defender Tristan Blackmon as his header opened the scoring in the 14th minute.


Moments later, LA Galaxy forward Dejan Joveljić saw his shot strongly parried away by goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka in the 16th minute of the match to keep the ‘Caps ahead.

Before the first half interval, Kelvin Leerdam got on the end of loose ball inside the box. The fullback directed the goal towards goal to level the game in stoppage time.

With the second half starting, the home side built up through midfield, eventually getting to ball to Joveljić, who’s effort was then saved by Takaoka in the 53rd minute.

As the match progressed, midfielder Ryan Gauld’s through pass sprung forward Brian White into the attacking half, his attempt was sent wide of the goal in the 75th minute.

The Blue & White will now prepare for another road test as they face Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field next Saturday March 25, with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. PT. Catch all the action on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and AM730, with the radio pre-game show starting at 4:30 p.m. PT.
