Real Madrid are monitoring Harry Kane’s situation at Tottenham as they aim to bolster their attacking options… with the England captain expected to attract interest from both Man United and Bayern Munich this summer

Real Madrid are monitoring developments with Harry Kane as they consider strikers to bolster their strike force this summer.

Tottenham have made initial soundings about extending the contract of their captain, who will be down to his final year this summer, but formal talks are still to advance.

They do not wish to lose Kane, particularly with manager Antonio Conte expected to depart also, yet they are acutely aware of his desire to win trophies.

The 29-year old is expected to attract enquiries from rivals at the end of the season with Manchester United and Bayern Munich both interested.

However, Tottenham’s valuation, combined with the salary required, and Kane’s age mean both clubs are not wholly convinced about the financial implications of such a transfer, and that is before contemplating protracted negotiations with Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy.

Madrid are offering a contract extension to 35-year old Karim Benzema and could yet revive interest in Kylian Mbappe at Paris St Germain but the merits of a move for prolific England marksman Kane have been discussed.

They believe Levy would prefer to sell abroad if Kane leaves at all and, of course, could wait and agree a pre-contract next January to sign him for free if the Tottenham talisman refuses to extend his current deal.

Much could yet hinge on Carlo Ancelotti continuing as manager. The Italian is a huge favourite at the Santiago Bernabeu and has one year left on contract himself. However, should Madrid fail to win La Liga – they are currently nine points behind Barcelona – or the Champions League, he could depart.
