Pundit insists ‘the jury is still out’ on 39-goal Erling Haaland with Man Utd target a ‘better player’

Didi Hamann has claimed that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is a “better all-round player” than Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Osimhen has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League having helped the Naples outfit top Serie A and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The 24-year-old Nigerian has scored an impressive 23 goals in 28 matches across all competitions this season.

This is an incredible scoring record, but it is a far cry from Haaland’s.

The Norweigan striker joined the Citizens from Borussia Dortmund for £51million last summer and it is fair to say he has adapted to life in England with no problems whatsoever.

Haaland scored a ridiculous five goals against RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the Champions League earlier this week, taking his European tally to ten in six.

If it wasn’t for Tuesday’s match against the Germans, Haaland would have fewer goals than games played this season, which is obviously pretty pathetic.

Despite his 39 goals in 36 matches in all competitions, former City and Liverpool midfielder Hamann does not think the 22-year-old is a better footballer than Osimhen.

“Haaland is probably the best centre-forward in Europe at the moment – if you look at his goalscoring record,” the German pundit explained.

“You would also have to mention Osimhen in this conversation who is a brilliant player.

“For Haaland to score five, it’s brilliant. But obviously the jury is still out as to whether he makes Manchester City better overall across a season.

“Having him is great, but that doesn’t mean they get a bye for the rest of the Champions League.

“They still have to play a quarter-final and a semi-final. They’re five points off Arsenal in the League and it remains to be seen whether he’s the player who wins City the Champions League.

“They’ve got as good a chance as probably one or two other teams. But whether he’s really the missing piece of the jigsaw for European success remains.

“For me, Osimhen is probably a better all-round player than Haaland right now and links up play better.

“Haaland is a very direct player and I was cautious whether he really fits into that city team.

“He may prove me wrong at the moment, if you look at his goalscoring and stats, but they could still be trophyless at…
