Comets Sign Defender DeBray Hollimon

Comets Crash Wave 10-4 Saturday Night

March 16, 2023 – Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)Kansas City Comets News Release

The Kansas City Comets have signed free agent defender DeBray Hollimon to a one-year contract. Per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Having most recently played for the Tacoma Stars earlier this season, Hollimon is excited to get to work with a franchise he has become familiar with over the years.

“I’ve always seen this club as a top-tier team and even more so now with all the greetings and welcome I’ve gotten from everybody. It’s next level and truly top-tier.”

As the son of former KC Attack player LeBaron Hollimon, playing for the Comets will bring a unique type of pressure every time he puts on his Comets jersey.

“It feels great,” Hollimon said of signing with the team. “It’s a little bit of added pressure because I’m going to have that last name on the back of my jersey. It’s going to be a fun challenge, but I think I’m up for it.”

Hollimon is in his fifth season in the MASL, which started in 2018 when he signed with the Ontario Fury. After two seasons in Ontario, Hollimon moved to Tacoma, where he spent the previous three seasons before the Stars released him on March 7.

The 26-year-old is excited to join a Comets team with high postseason aspirations.

“My goal every year is to win a championship,” Hollimon said. “I’m hoping to come in and help the team in any way I can. I’ll do whatever they need me to do and do it to the best of my ability.”

A native of Wichita, Kansas, Hollimon helped Wichita Northwest High School win the Kansas 6A State championship in 2011 and spent time with the Sporting KC Academy. He played two years at Cal State San Bernadino, where he was named California Collegiate Athletic Association Male Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year before transferring to San Diego State.

Hollimon could get his first opportunity in a Comets uniform this Saturday when the Comets host the Florida Tropics. Tickets are available at www.kccomets.com/tickets.
