Pack Falls to Camels, 4-1

Boston College

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Wolfpack softball team dropped its midweek meeting with Campbell, 4-1, Wednesday evening.

The Pack struggled from the batter’s box as Camel pitcher Isabella Smith recorded eight consecutive strikeouts. Freshman Ellie Goins ended her streak after she lined out to right field in the bottom of the third inning.

Campbell scored three in the bottom of the second to take the lead. The Camels scored its first two runs after Aliyah Sweeny singled up the middle.

With two outs, catcher Haley Haislip recorded the Pack’s first hit of the afternoon after she singled to left field in the top of the fifth. NC State’s chance to get on the board was cut short after the next Pack batter struck out.

To start the sixth inning, Rebecca Murray and Kaitlyn Pavlick walked. With an 0-2 count and two on base, freshman Amanda Hasler hit an infield single and an error by the Camels shortstop allowed her to reach first and her teammates to advance. Fellow freshman Nadia Sykes came in to pinch run for Hasler and Murray scored on a pass ball to get the Pack on the board. The top of the sixth ended with the Pack trailing the Camels 3-1.

Campbell increased the lead back to three in the bottom of the sixth after a single down the right line brought one home.

Redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann pitched all seven innings and recorded six strikeouts on the day to record a new season high.
