DURHAM — Duke women’s soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2023 as head coach Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 6 overall class. During the spring, GoDuke.com will be spotlighting each of the seven newcomers.
The third incoming freshman that will be spotlighted is Kiera Clemens, who is a 5-9 midfielder from Raleigh, N.C. She attends Crossroads Flex and plays for the NC Courage Girls Development Academy.
Clemens is ranked No. 19 overall in the class of 2023 by TopDrawerSoccer. She has trained at multiple U.S. U-17 & U-15 Youth National Team camps.
GoDuke.com: What made you choose Duke?
Kiera Clemens: I chose Duke because it is close to home and I loved the coaches and the environment as well as academics
GD: Tell us about your soccer game and what you hope to bring to Duke?
KC: I hope to bring positivity and passion like all of the girls have!
GD: Favorite NWSL Player?
KC: Michelle Cooper
GD: Most excited for at Duke (soccer and not soccer)?
KC: Becoming close with the girls and getting a good education
GD: What is a fun fact/skill/talent people may not know about you?
KC: I won states in swimming when I was younger
GD: Who are your biggest inspirations on and off the pitch?
KC: My brother is my biggest inspiration as he taught me a lot to do with soccer and has taught me an amazing mentality
GD: What is your proudest moment on the soccer field so far?
KC: Coming back from injury and scoring the winning goal against our rivals
GD: At what age did you start playing soccer?
KC: Four
GD: Did you play other sports growing up?
KC: I swam and played basketball
GD: I know it is early, but do you have any idea yet what you think you might want to major in?
KC: Psychology
