Rio says Carragher ‘should be ashamed’ as he mocks Liverpool legend over ‘small club mentality’

Ferdinand on Grealish

Rio Ferdinand says Jamie Carragher and fellow Liverpool legend Graeme Souness “should be ashamed” of the way they reacted to Liverpool’s 7-0 win over Manchester United, and reveled in their subsequent loss to Bournemouth.

Jurgen Klopp’s side demolished United at Anfield but couldn’t build on that victory a week later, succumbing to bottom side Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

And Ferdinand clearly enjoyed Liverpool’s bump back down to earth.

Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel: “That is a small club mentality. That screams small club.”

The former centre-back then used his platform to have a go at both Carragher and Souness for antagonising the United pundits after the 7-0 mauling.

“The way Souness and Carragher were celebrating, the way they were trying to antagonise the guys [Roy Keane and Gary Neville], and then their team goes and does that at the weekend.

“They should be ashamed of themselves.”

Responding to the United defeat to Liverpool, Ferdinand said last week: “To sit here and start picking players out for one performance, we have been sitting here for many months now saying this team are on the upward curve in contrast to what it has been.

“They have had one performance and we are going to put them on the floor, I don’t think it is right.

“When we played, if you lost, you are thinking about Wednesday or Tuesday ‘we do not lose that game’, that was the chat.

“I am only going to start panicking if we get beaten on Thursday [against Real Betis] or Southampton at the weekend.

“That will tell me where this team is mentally.”

United brushed Betis aside in the Europa League and will take a 4-1 lead to Spain for the return leg on Thursday.

But they will have been disappointed to have dropped points at home against Southampton, though Casemiro’s straight red card in the first half offers a caveat for that 0-0 draw against the relegation threatened Saints.
