Mount drops ‘clearest signal yet’ he will leave Chelsea for £70m as Liverpool in ‘pole position’

Chelsea end talks with Mount

Mason Mount has reportedly ‘dropped the clearest signal yet’ he will leave Chelsea this summer, with Liverpool in ‘pole position’ to secure his £70m transfer.

Mount is out of contract at Chelsea in the summer of 2024 and talks over a new deal have stalled with the England international demanding pay parity with top earners like Raheem Sterling and Reece James.

The 24-year-old currently earns around £80,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, and wants upwards of £200,000 per week to remain beyond this summer.

It’s claimed Liverpol are in ‘pole position’ to sign Mount should he leave west London this summer, though Manchester United are also thought to be keeping tabs on his situation.

It’s claimed Todd Boehly and Clearlake are willing to sell Mount if they can’t come to an agreement over a new deal, and it’s believed a fee of around £70m would be enough to see him leave the club.

And Football Insider have now revealed, in the ‘clearest signal yet’ of Mount’s desire to leave Chelsea, that his father has ‘mandated an agent to sound out interest in his services.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter said on Friday that he has spoken to Mason Mount about “life in general” and believes his “feelings” on the star “are clear” and wants him to make “the right choice for him and his family”.

“It’s between the club and Mason,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

“Sometimes these things happen. They’re complicated and it’s best I speak little about it.”

Indeed, Potter clearly wants Mount to come to the right decision due to the relationship he has with him, whether or not that sees him remain with Chelsea.

“I’ve spoken to him several times about life in general. My feelings for Mason are clear and I think he’s a fantastic person,” he added.

“I’m not naive and I know it’s an important contract for him. These things have to be right for him and his family and it’s important he makes the right choice for him.”
