Nashville SC defender Nick DePuy will miss the rest of the 2023 MLS campaign after undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury. The 28-year-old has been placed on the Season-Ending Injury List, which makes him ineligible to play for the club in any remaining competition this season.

Per MLS rules, if a player suffers a season-ending injury, a club may place that injured player on the Season-Ending Injury List and receive roster relief (an open roster slot).

DePuy failed to feature for Nashville after arriving as an offseason trade from the LA Galaxy, where he managed two assists in 59 appearances over three seasons. He originally kicked off as a 2017 MLS SuperDraft pick of CF Montreal (19th overall), seeing just five games with the Canadian side before moving to LA.

The player quickly made an impact under Schmetzer after arriving as an offseason trade from New York City FC, recording two goals in 10 shots. He scored in both of Seattle’s home victories so far this campaign, propelling the 4-0 win over the Colorado Rapids and the 2-0 triumph vs. Real Salt Lake.

The head coach will likely lean on Raul Ruidiaz, despite his recent injury. Schmetzer revealed the Designated Player feels ready to play, but he is cautious to introduce him to the starting 11 too quickly and risk another setback.

“He’s going to tell you he can play 90 minutes,” Schmetzer said of Ruidiaz. “[But] just because of Heber’s injury, you don’t want to compound anything by pushing Raul too much too early when…
