Cooper Named to U.S. U-23 Squad for Trip to France

DURHAM – Recent National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft selection out of Duke, Michelle Cooper has been named to the U.S. Under-23 Women’s Youth National Team that will travel to France for a pair of contests against the host country.

Cooper along with 19 Americans will head to Clairefontaine, France from Feb. 12-21 to take on France Feb. 17 and 20 at the national training center located outside of Paris.

The U.S. team will be coached by Carrie Kveton, a former assistant coach in the NWSL with the Washington Spirit and OL Reign and current Head of Individual Development for FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark.

Cooper was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2023 NWSL Draft in January, coming off an impressive two-year stint with the Blue Devils.  She capped her collegiate career by winning the MAC Hermann Trophy.  A native of Clarkston, Mich., Cooper accumulated 31 goals, 16 assists and 78 points in 40 matches in two years with the Blue Devils.

No stranger to U.S. competition, Cooper represented the U.S. at the U-20 FIFA World Cup this past summer.  She also received the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic.
