Manchester City are interested in Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister

Pep Guardiola wants to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister to replace the ageing Ilkay Gundogan.

Mac Allister has enjoyed an impressive season with Brighton under Roberto De Zerbi. The Argentina international earned himself a call-up to his national team squad for the World Cup, helping his country win the tournament.

The 24-year-old is yet another sign of Brighton’s excellent recruitment strategy with Mac Allister the latest player to be signed for a cheap price and attract interest from bigger clubs.

According to Fichajes, Pep Guardiola wants to sign Mac Allister as a replacement for Manchester City midfielder Gundogan.

Gundogan is 32 years old and out of contract in the summer meaning Man City will be short in midfield at the end of the season.

The report claims that Mac Allister would cost around €40m, a bit of a bargain in today’s market.

His versatility could make him an extremely useful player for Guardiola. Mac Allister has played in a host of positions during his time at Brighton but you’d imagine would be predominantly played in a midfield three if he was to sign for Manchester City.
