Manchester United midfielder Fred has opened up on life under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman endured a nightmare start to life at Old Trafford following humiliating defeats to Brighton and Brentford, but the Red Devils have since recovered superbly and are now one of the Premier League’s toughest sides again.
Fred has seen his role reduced after the summer signing of Christian Eriksen, but is now set to battle Marcel Sabitzer for a starting spot alongside compatriot Casemiro after the Dane was ruled out for a few months with an ankle injury.
In an interview with The Times, Fred revealed Casemiro teased him about a potential switch to United from Real Madrid in the summer.
“Casemiro sent me a message last summer saying: ‘Maybe I will come to United,’” Fred said. “I know his quality so I messaged him back, saying: ‘You need to come here today, right now!’ I admire him a lot. He’s a world-class player. It’s so important for him to be in our team.”
Conversation then quickly shifted to Ten Hag, and Fred opened up on the three dressing room instructions the Dutchman has pinned up.
“He is a good coach and has helped us a lot. Now we have an identity to show to other teams,” Fred added.
“He has put rules [up] inside the dressing room – don’t be late, don’t do wrong things, always do what you can to help your partner – and that’s important. We are growing every day.”
