Man Utd approaching £90million decision as ‘priority’ forward snare dominates Ten Hag’s thoughts

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen

Manchester United will be expected to pay £90million for the ‘priority’ signing of Victor Osimhen, and Paris Saint-Germain contesting them could bump the fee up.

It’s no surprise that United will be targeting a central striker come the summer. The cancellation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract means they’re bare in that position, with electric forward Marcus Rashford preferring to play out wide.

The loan signing of Wout Weghorst in January is nothing more than a stopgap. The decision to loan a player in was reportedly so United didn’t have to commit to a permanent signing in the winter.

A number of quality strikers have been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Harry Kane and Dusan Vlahovic are names on that list, but one of the main ones is Napoli forward Osimhen.

That’s little surprise, given he’s the top scorer in Serie A this season with 14 goals so far. Furthermore, he’s equalled his league goals tally from last season in 11 less games, so is likely to continue banging them in.

The hope for United will be that he’s doing that for them in the near future. They’ve learned that they’ll be expected to pay around £90million for his services, reported by ESPN.

That report suggests Erik ten Hag has identified the striker position as a ‘priority’ for the summer. However, the Red Devils aren’t the only side with eyes on Osimhen.

Indeed, PSG are also targeting the forward, and that could complicate things. A battle between two big clubs for the forward will allow Napoli to up his price.

The report states the ‘prospect of both making a serious effort has raised the possibility of an even greater fee’.

That will lead to a decision at United over whether a bidding war with PSG is the way to go, or if they should turn their attention to another player.

Indeed, PSG are one of the richest clubs in the world and will likely take their pursuit deep. Whether or not that means United will pull out remains to be seen.
