Forest reach ‘agreement’ to complete astonishing signing of three-time Champions League winner

Nottingham Forest target Keylor Navas during a warm-up

Nottingham Forest are facing a race against time to complete the signing of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

The 36-year-old has failed to make a single Ligue 1 or Champions League appearance this season with Christophe Galtier preferring Gianluigi Donnarumma.

His only appearances this term came in the Coupe de France after playing 26 times across all competitions in 2021-22.

Navas’ lack of game time has caught the eye of Premier League side Nottingham Forest, according to reports.

It is surprising that less clubs have been linked with the experienced goalkeeper, who is available for a low price, reported to be in the region of £4million.

Forest are without on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson for a while and Steve Cooper has been working on bringing in Navas as a replacement.

Cooper brought in over 20 players last summer and has added a few more this month.

Navas has the potential to be the best of the lot, however, having won the Champions League three times with Real Madrid.

Lots of reports now suggest a deal is close to being completed.

At 19:16 on deadline day, the very reliable John Percy said Forest have an agreement to sign Navas on loan from PSG.

The player is expected to have his medical in the French capital with the deal now in its ‘final stages’.

Percy added that midfielder Lewis O’Brien is currently having a medical ahead of a move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

A move to the City Ground is arguably a step up for Navas, who clearly feels like representing a side that has won a European Cup once again.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also said that an agreement has been reached between PSG and Forest.

Romano wrote on Twitter: ‘Nottingham Forest and PSG have full verbal agreement on Keylor Navas deal but still waiting on documents and all paperwork — it’s crucial step.

‘Navas has already accepted days ago, player side is not an issue.’

The Athletic add that Forest are facing a race against time to complete the signing in time.

‘Most hurdles have been overcome’ after some ‘complications’ relating to the remainder of the goalkeeper’s contract with PSG.

The report adds that the Premier League side have ‘stepped up their interest’ in Gabriel, an 18-year-old forward from Brazil.

The teenager, who can play as a winger or through the middle, already has 77 appearances for Santos and is highly rated in his home country.
