LAKELAND, Fla. – Bruno Henrique, who was on his way to a breakout year in 2021-22 before a season-ending knee injury, has been cleared to rejoin the Florida Tropics, Head Coach Clay Roberts has announced.

In just his second season, Henrique had 20 points in jonly 10 games last year before the injury. He signed a new free-agent contract to stay with Florida in 2022-23, but was made ineligible due to visa issues at the start of the new year. However, with his visa issues now resolved, the Major Arena Soccer League has cleared Henrique to join his team.

“Bruno is exactly the kind of high-energy, high skills player that every team covets,” Roberts noted. “His dedication, work ethic and talent are the perfect combination. And it’s those traits, as good as he was for us last year, that can make him even more dangerous and an even better player going forward.”

Henrique, who played college soccer at nearby Southeastern University where Roberts is also the head coach, debuted in the 2020-21 season with three goals and five assists in eight games. He really emerged in his sophomore season, with 11 goals and nine assists in Florida’s first 10 games last year. He had scored in seven straight games, including three two-goal games, before his season ended on Jan. 30 in a win over the Ambush, a game in which he had already scored twice.

“It usually takes a player two or three times as many games as Bruno has played before he really begins to emerge,” Roberts added. “Bruno has taken to the game so quickly because of his mindset and willingness to work and be a great teammate. He listens, learns and executes on the floor at an exceptional rate.”

Henrique played five games for the Major Arena Soccer League 2 Iowa Demon Hawks this winter, scoring 10 goals in five games, second best in the league behind Ricardo Diegues, who also was recently cleared to join the Tropics in addition to Rainer Hauss and Thiago Freitas.

The Tropics are in the midst of a five-game road trip, with games Saturday, Jan. 28 in Harrisburg, Saturday, Feb. 4 in Dallas, Friday, Feb. 10 in Kansas City and Saturday, Feb. 11 in St. Louis before returning home for two straight at the RP Funding Center. That includes a Sunday, Feb 19 date against the Kansas City Comets and a visit from the Tacoma Stars on Sunday, Feb. 26.
