SD Loyal Adds Midfielder Blake Bodily

January 24, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)San Diego Loyal News Release

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC announced today it has signed Blake Bodily for the upcoming 2023 USL Championship season, pending federation and league approval.

The 5-foot-9 midfielder from Eagle, Idaho joins SD Loyal after spending the last three years with Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. Bodily signed a homegrown contract with Portland in Jan. 2020 following three standout seasons with the University of Washington. Prior to UW, Bodily spent time with Portland Timbers Academy and Portland Timbers 2 from 2014-2017.

“We are thrilled to bring Blake to San Diego,” said SD Loyal Head Coach Nate Miller. “We know him very well as he was with us on loan in 2021 and performed very well in a short time. He is a perfect fit at wingback for our team. He is an elite crosser, very dangerous in 1v1 moments, and an extremely hard worker. Getting to know him as a person was crucial as we know he fits our culture very well and will be an excellent fit in our community.”

Bodily first began playing with Portland Timbers 2 in 2015 where he appeared in 35 matches, scoring four goals. He also played for the organization’s Under-23 team and eventually made it to the MLS side in 2020. Bodily played in 12 MLS matches before moving to Portland Timbers 2 again from 2020 to 2022, although the team did not participate in the 2021 USL Championship season.

Bodily was acquired on loan by SD Loyal in October of 2021 but did not see playing time with the club and was recalled a few weeks later by Portland.

Bodily made his MLS debut at the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando in 2020. He began his youth career with Boise Nationals before joining Portland Timbers Academy in 2014. On June 29, 2015, he made his professional debut for Portland Timbers 2 in The USL Championship.

Bodily played three seasons of collegiate soccer at the University of Washington (2017-2019) where he scored 17 goals and recorded 18 assists in 56 games played (39 starts). In his junior campaign, Bodily scored 12 goals and had six assists in 19 appearances (16 starts) for the Huskies en route to being named Pac-12 Player of the Year. He also earned United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-American honors.
