Fabrizio Romano has clarified where Manchester United stand on Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus after reports emerged linking him with a move.

The German playmaker is out of contract at the end of the season and he is currently exploring his options for the future.

Recent reports claimed that a meeting had been held between Erik ten Hag and Dirk Hebel, the agent of Reus.

Romano has provided the latest update on this transfer story and he has confirmed that Man United have not made any bid to the player as of now.

He told The United Stand: “I’m told it’s true that they had some conversations with the agents of Marco Reus. He’s one of the players they considered, they spoke to, so it’s true that they had some conversations, but at the same time, I’m told that at the moment, it’s not a negotiation.

“So Man United didn’t make any bid to Marco Reus, they are not in advanced talks to sign Marco Reus in the summer, so at the moment, is still a quiet situation.

“It’s just a conversation and it’s absolutely normal for a top club like Man United to explore options, to speak to agents, to speak to players.”

Reus has scored three goals and provided three assists for Dortmund so far this season. These days he predominantly plays through the middle as a number 10.

Man United have added Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst on loan in the January window so far. They are also considering cashing in on a few of their own players.

Next up for Ten Hag’s side is a test against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg. The manager is eager to win his first trophy with Man United.

He told reporters: “It’s about that, it’s about winning trophies, so we have a good opportunity but we have to go game from game, now we play Forest two legs, so focus on the first leg, don’t think further ahead because that will distract and so the aim for tomorrow is win that game.

“It’s a long time ago United played there [The City Ground]. I think we like that. When fanatic audience is nice to play for, it will be a good atmosphere and I think it will motivate the players and we have to get ready for that.

“It’s the best feeling you can have, winning a trophy and I have the luck in my career to win some trophies and it’s magnificent, especially for the fans, it’s so great and I think the fans here have some experience, especially the older ones, but in this period, Manchester United didn’t win trophies and it’s too long ago. We are…
