Man Utd sign Canada full-back Jayde Riviere

Manchester United have completed the signing of Canadian international Jayde Riviere.

The highly rated 21-year-old right-back joins United following a spell at AFC Ann Arbor in the USL and has signed a contract until 2025. However, she has been nursing a long-term injury since the autumn and may not be back up to speed until February.

Riviere has been capped 36 times at senior international level, and was part of the Canada side who surged to the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, alongside current United forward Adriana Leon.

“I am a huge Manchester United fan, so this is a dream come true for me to sign here,” Riviere said. “I’m really looking forward to developing and learning at this huge football club, and I can’t wait to use all my playing attributes to help us achieve our joint goals on the pitch.”

United boss Marc Skinner said: “Jayde is an exciting young player who matches the long-term version of Manchester United, and our continued belief in nurturing the best young talent in the game.

“We have been monitoring Jayde for a long time and believe she has the attributes to become an excellent footballer.  We are delighted she has signed her first professional contract with us and look forward to seeing the quality she will add to the group.”

Riviere made her Canada debut at the age of 16 and went on to spend three years playing college soccer for the Michigan Wolverines in the United States.

Ona Batlle is currently United’s first choice right-back. But her contract expires in the summer, and while talks are ongoing no agreement over a new deal has been reached.

So far this month, United have allowed Lucy Staniforth to join Aston Villa on a free transfer, while highly-rated youngster Grace Clinton will finish the season on loan at Bristol City.
