Virginia Women's Soccer | Cagle, Godfrey Headline Virginia’s VaSID Honorees

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Midfielder Lia Godfrey was named the Offensive Player of the Year and forward Maggie Cagle was named Rookie of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) it was announced by the organization on Thursday (Jan. 19). The duo led a group of seven players honored with All-State honors.

Godfrey was also named a first-team selection in addition to her selection as Offensive Player of the Year. Joining Godfrey on the first team were forwards Haley Hopkins and Alexa Spaanstra, and defender Samar Guidry. Three players were selected to the second team with Cagle being joined by defenders Talia Staude and Laney Rouse.

Godfery was a first-team All-America selection and a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy this past season after earning All-ACC first team honors. Hopkins and Spaanstra were both selected in the first round of the NWSL Draft last week after earning All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Cagle was named an All-ACC honoree as well as earning a spot on the ACC All-Freshman team. She led all NCAA D1 freshmen in assists and game-winning assists this past season.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
