LA Galaxy Sign Goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann to New Contract

Three LA Galaxy Players Called into Respective National Teams for 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship

LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy today announced that the club has re-signed goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann to a one-year contract through the end of the 2023 season with a club option for 2024.

“Jonathan continues to grow in his development to be a high-level goalkeeper, “said LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney. “We are pleased to have him back and competing everyday to make himself and his teammates better. We look forward to the impact he can have in the team this coming season.”


In three seasons with the Galaxy (2020 – 22), Klinsmann has logged three shutouts in 11 games played (11 starts) across all competitions. During the 2022 campaign, Klinsmann logged one shutout and seven saves in four appearances in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup helping the Galaxy reach the Quarterfinal round of the tournament.

In his first season with LA in 2020, Klinsmann made four appearances (4 starts) and logged one shutout. During the 2020 campaign, the Munich, Germany, native registered one shutout in three starts. Prior to joining the Galaxy, Klinsmann spent time with German side Hertha Berlin (2017 – 19) and FC St. Gallen 1879 in Switzerland (2019 – 20).

Internationally, Klinsmann has featured extensively for various youth U.S. Men’s National Team sides and also earned a call up to a senior camp in 2018. In 2017, he earned honors with the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s top goalkeeper at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship and also started five matches in the U-20 FIFA World Cup that same year.

Transaction: LA Galaxy re-sign Jonathan Klinsmann to a one-year contract through the end of the 2023 season with a club option for 2024 on Dec. 19, 2022.
