Claudio Reyna to Attend Closing Ceremonies of 2022 FIFA World Cup as Member of Presidential Delegation

Washington, D.C. – President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. today announced the designation of a Presidential Delegation to the State of Qatar to attend the Closing Ceremonies of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on December 18, 2022, in Doha, which includes Austin FC Sporting Director and former United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) captain Claudio Reyna.


Reyna played 112 matches for the USMNT between 1994 and 2006, including representing the U.S. at four (4) FIFA World Cups and two (2) Olympic tournaments. He was named to the 2002 FIFA World Cup All-Tournament team after leading the USMNT to the quarterfinals, and to the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.

As Sporting Director of Austin FC, Reyna helped oversee the team’s historic 2022 season. Austin FC finished in second place in the MLS Western Conference and defeated Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas in the MLS Cup Playoffs to reach the Western Conference Final. The Club qualified for the 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League by way of its fourth-place finish in the Supporters’ Shield Standings.

The Honorable Linda Thomas-Greenfield, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, will lead the delegation.
