Women’s Soccer Places Four on All-Region Teams

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer has four student-athletes on the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Teams for the 2022 season. Emily Mason (First Team), Riley Tiernan (Second Team), and Sara Brocious and Sam Kroeger (Third Team) are the Scarlet Knights’ Regional All-Americans.

This is the second consecutive year and fourth time in the last five seasons Rutgers has had at least four players represented in the All-Region awards. Mason, Brocious, and Kroeger all earn their first Regional All-America honors, while Tiernan earns her second in as many collegiate seasons after earning First Team as a freshman in 2021. Mason’s First Team All-Region honor makes her eligible for All-America, which will be announced on Dec. 2.

Mason, also an All-Big Ten First Team selection, turned in 14 matches with the full 90 minutes played, contributing to eight shutouts on the Scarlet Knight defense. The versatile, 5-foot-10 defender has also chipped in on the attack, scoring her first collegiate goal in a 7-0 win against Temple on Sept. 1 and then scoring her first collegiate brace in a 3-0 win at Purdue on Oct. 2. She also added an important assist in the 1-1 draw at then-No. 8 Northwestern on Sept. 29.

Tiernan earned All-Big Ten Third Team following a 14-point campaign on four goals and six assists, with three of the goals coming in the final six matches of the regular season, including one in the Big Ten Tournament. Her six assists ranked sixth in the Big Ten at the end of the regular season. Just a sophomore, Tiernan has now passed out 19 assists in her career to rank eighth all-time at Rutgers, needing just four more to break into the top-five in program history.

Brocious was an All-Big Ten Second Team honoree after a consistently productive season out of the central attacking midfield position, contributing 17 points on five goals and seven assists during the 2022 regular season. She scored game-winning goals in the victories over UNLV and Maryland, with the latter being the lone goal in a 1-0 victory on Sept. 25. Brocious has put in the 90-minute effort in 17 of 20 matches during the fall. Her seven assists this season have her career total up to 16, tied for the 12th most in Rutgers…
