Schlegel Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist


KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Redshirt senior Ally Schlegel has been a named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy announced Wednesday. 

This marks the second time Schlegel has been named as a semifinalist for the most coveted individual honor in college soccer that is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.

Leading the Nittany Lions with 13 goals, three assists and 28 points, Schlegel was named First Team All-North Region, First Team All-Big Ten and Offensive MVP of the Big Ten Tournament this season.

The Parker, Colorado native also led the Big Ten with her 13 goals this season and is 15th in goals in the NCAA.

Schlegel was also named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy her redshirt sophomore season in spring 2021 after leading the Nittany Lions with 11 goals, six assists and 28 points. That same season she was named the Big Ten Forward of the Year.

In program history, the Nittany Lions have had two Penn Staters win the MAC Hermann trophy (Raquel Rodriguez – 2015 & Christie Welsh – 2001). Seven times in program history a Nittany Lion has finished as the runner up for the award (Christie Welsh 2000 & 2002, Joanna Lohman – 2003, Tiffany Weimer – 2004 & 2005, Maya Hayes – 2011, Christine Nairn – 2012). 

Three women’s finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 6, 2023 to formally announce this year’s winners.
