Gareth Southgate provides huge Harry Kane injury update

England manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Harry Kane will be fit to face the United States on Friday evening.

Concerns over the Three Lions captain’s fitness were raised during the emphatic World Cup opening win Iran, when Kane rolled his ankle in a heavy tackle.

Despite initial concerns however, Southgate has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that his star forward is fit and ready for England’s second World Cup group stage game against the United States.

“Harry is fine. He has worked slightly separately from the group but all good for Friday night,” Southgate confirmed to the media.

“He had a scan [on Wednesday] to make sure everything is fine.”

Southgate also took the time to preview the game on Friday evening, one in which a win will secure the Three Lions’ path to the World Cup knockout rounds. The England manager said that he expects a much different challenge to the one posed by Iran in the opening game.

“We would love to do that on Friday, but the game won’t be anything like Monday.

“We have to make sure we are back to the psychological place we were at the start because the States will be an athletic team, press really well, be organised, well coached.

“They have quite a few players we know from the Premier League and they showed in the first half against Wales the best side of themselves. Monday was a great start and it is that reset to be ready for Friday.”
