Man Utd forward involved in training ground bust-up

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was involved in a training ground clash with academy player Dan Gore during a recent training session.

With most of United’s first-team players away at the World Cup, Erik ten Hag has drafted in some academy players to make up the numbers alongside seniors like Martial, who failed to make the France squad even following the injury to Karim Benzema.

Numerous outlets have reported that Martial was on the receiving end of a particularly feisty challenge from 18-year-old midfielder Gore and the pair ended up needing to be pulled apart by teammates.

Martial has since apologised to Gore for escalating the situation.

Ten Hag spoke with Gore after the incident to remind him that first-team players should not be tackled in certain sessions to avoid the risk of injury, particularly to players like Martial who have been battling injuries all season.

Martial has just seven appearances in all competitions to his name, having dealt with hamstring, Achilles and back problems throughout Ten Hag’s short tenure.

The Frenchman is the only senior striker left at Carrington over the World Cup, with senior teammates like Jadon Sancho and the emerging Alejandro Garnacho also failing to receive call-ups for the winter showpiece.
