Cristiano Ronaldo insists he has 'nothing to prove' at World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has stressed he has nothing to prove to anybody following criticism of his controversial interview.

Ronaldo spoke out about his unhappiness at Manchester United, taking aim at Erik ten Hag and the Glazers and prompting the club to seek termination of his contract ahead of the January transfer window.

Asked on Monday whether he hopes to use the World Cup to prove his value to United and any potential suitors, Ronaldo laughed off the suggestion.

“If I have to prove something at 37 years and eight months, I’d be worried,” he said. “After what I’ve already done and won, it would be a surprise for me.

“Of course, I have to demonstrate what I am year after year. Everyone has opinions. If the World Cup the most important competition? Yes, one of the most. it’s a dream to win, but if I didn’t win any more trophies, I’d still be proud.”

United believe Ronaldo can be found guilty of breach of contract, which would give them the freedom to terminate his contract.

Indeed, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is understood to working on finding the striker a new club ahead of the January transfer window, believing that he has played his final game for the Red Devils.
