State to Close Regular Season at Home, Honor Senior Class

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State soccer program returns home for a senior-night matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs (11-5-1, 5-3-1 SEC). The Thursday night (Oct. 27) match will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network+.

“What a perfect way to end the season – at home in front of a great, home crowd,” head coach James Armstrong said. “[We’ll be] playing for a [first-round] bye in the tournament against a very good Georgia team. The girls are excited – it’s senior night, and it’s going to be a great night of soccer.”

MSU is gearing up for its final game of the regular season. While at home this season, State has earned six wins, has scored 15 goals and has broken its all-time attendance record in two consecutive games. It’s the eighth time MSU has secured six or more wins in a season.

Georgia, meanwhile, is coming off a 3-0 win at Kentucky. The Bulldogs entered the first-half break with a one-goal lead before scoring the final pair in a three-minute span in the second half. Georgia outshot Kentucky and limited the Wildcats to only four shots (two on goal).

L, 1-2 at Vanderbilt
For only the second time on the road, MSU came up short against its opponent, falling 2-1 to Vanderbilt. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs secured its fifth SEC Tournament appearance with a game still to play in the regular season. It’s the third time in the last four years that MSU will head to the Gulf Coast for postseason play. The eight goals scored by Maggie Wadsworth are now tied for the third-most in a season by a MSU freshman.

State is one of eight teams who have already clinched their spot in the SEC Tournament with a game to play. MSU sits in 7th place with 13 league points (four wins, one tie), with Georgia sitting directly above them in 6th with 16 points. The top-six teams after Thursday night’s games will get a first-round bye. To achieve that feat, State would need to beat Georgia.

It’s now the fifth time the Dawgs have reached the SEC Tournament and the third time during Armstrong’s four-year reign.
