Jarrod Bowen has opened up on West Ham’s struggles during the start of the season as the Hammers got back on track against Bournemouth.
David Moyes’ side have set the bar fairly high for themselves after two successive top-seven finishes.
The Hammers have struggled to get things going this season though as they had dropped points in eight of their opening 11 matches.
Monday night’s victory over Bournemouth was a reminder of what they are capable of and Bowen has opened up on the Hammers start.
He told the official club website: “The win is massively important. The position we found ourselves in the last few games hasn’t been great, especially waiting until Monday to play and seeing everyone else’s results.
“We knew the importance of tonight and where [a win] could take us. [The table] looks a lot better now than it did at the start of the day. The main thing is to keep that momentum now.
“We were probably our own worst enemy, not retaining the ball. The last 10 minutes we had to suffer but we stuck at it and did well.
“We did not start the season well enough. Our performances were not at the level we have set over the past years. It was about us reacting as a group.
“But we dug deep [today] and sometimes the togetherness and spirit as a team gets you through those rough patches.
“Every day in training the standard, the professionalism is top drawer. We’re getting there now with the performances and picking up good results so we just have to keep aiming higher and higher.”
West Ham now find themselves 10th in the table and back on track for a top-half finish.
The Hammers have had a fairly jam-packed schedule to deal with as they have had the Europa Conference League to contend with alongside the Premier League.
They currently find themselves top of Group B, having won all of their European matches so far.
Said Benrahma had a starring performance on Monday night as he scored West Ham’s second goal from the penalty spot.
Bowen has been quick to praise his teammate adding: “That is the quality Said has got. His one-v-one ability, creating things. He was a real bright spark and to get his goal.
“It was a brilliant penalty to make it 2-0 as well. Said was brilliant tonight. I am so happy for him.”
Next up for the Hammers is a European midweek tie against Silkeborg, before they face Man United at the weekend in the Premier League.
