WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 5 Notre Dame women’s soccer team (14-2-0, 7-2-0) won its sixth in a row with a 3-0 road victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-6-2, 3-6-0). As a result, the Irish keep pace with Florida State and North Carolina in a now three-way tie for first place. The Irish will host No. 10 Duke at home on Oct. 27 in the regular-season finale with a share of the regular season title up for grabs.

Korbin Albert maintained her torrid run down the stretch, recording a brace on Sunday night, her second of the season. She has now scored six goals in the past five games, including three game-winners.

Olivia Wingate notched a goal as well in the 87th minute – her 11th of the season. She continues to lead the ACC in total goals and total points.

Defensively, the Irish backline plus goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood, continue to be one of the main storylines of the season – earning their sixth consecutive shutout and 11th overall on the season.

How It Happened

The Irish recorded a pair of shots in the opening 10 minutes courtesy of Berkley Mensik and Kiki Van Zanten, and as the offensive pressure continued to mount, a shot in the 29th minute resulted in a handball penalty kick.

Albert stepped up and buried it, marking her fourth game-winner of the season, which ties her with Maddie Mercado for the team lead.

In the 51st minute, Wingate snuck behind the Wake Forest defense on a brilliant through ball to garner a breakaway with just the goalie to beat. However, it was just a touch too many, as the goalie came out and took the path away for the save. Just a minute later, Wingate had another crack at it with a low liner from outside the box, but it was directed at the keeper.

Albert made the Demon Deacons pay for a deliberate foul in the 67th minute. Unlocking her special ability, free-kick goals, Albert delivered again by tucking her shot perfectly into the near post.

Then the icing on the cake was a Wingate breakaway goal in the 87th minute. It marked Notre Dame’s ninth win of 3 or more goals and third of this six-game win streak.
