Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha says Arsenal are thriving this season as they “don’t have to deal with” Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Maguire.
Arsenal top the Premier League table with Manchester United languishing nine points behind them having played a game less.
United have recovered since Erik ten Hag started his rein as manager with defeats to Brentford and Brighton.
They have won five of their last six games in the top flight, although they were dealt a significant reality check as they were battered 6-3 by Manchester City.
Arsenal meanwhile have won eight of their nine games, with United contributing the only blot on their record with a 3-1 win over the Gunners at Old Trafford last month.
Saha believes there’s increased “politics” at United compared to Arsenal, who are fluorishing without the ego of Ronaldo or Maguire’s leadership.
“Some other squads are playing better at the moment, like maybe Arsenal, and you’ll see less problems with status and ego down there than with United,” Saha told Compare.Bet (via Metro).
“You don’t have to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo and scoring 700 goals or Maguire being club captain. Whereas Arsenal has a young squad full of talent and you can manage them.
“You can tell them to go and sit on the bench, players might not be happy but they can’t do anything about it. That’s not the case with United. It’s harder, there’s more politics and it can be a big challenge.”
Many a pundit has had their say on how to fix the problems at Manchester United, and with Ronaldo set to leave at the end of the season a new striker is likely to be high on their list of priorities.
Saha reckons they should go after Tottenham star Harry Kane, who has less than two years left on his current deal.
“Of course Kane would be a great signing for United,” Saha added.
“He could go anywhere in the world and he would shine.
“I would be very happy with him at United, because United need the kind of composure Kane has up front.”
