Cary, NC – The North Carolina Football Club and Lenovo conclude the 2022 Starting STEM campaign with a free field day for program participants on Friday, Sept. 23, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park. More than 130 local elementary school students and teachers will join North Carolina Courage players and staff as the culmination of the club’s 2022 Starting STEM program, presented by Lenovo.
“We know the importance of STEM in modern day education, particularly in this community, so we are proud to host this field day, along with Lenovo volunteers, to help introduce STEM to local students at a critical early age” said North Carolina Football Club Chief Revenue Officer Kyle Prairie. “This field day will allow students to have a variety of interactive STEM experiences related to soccer, in addition to virtual reality and e-sport activities. We thank Lenovo for their continued support of this wonderful program.”
The participants will also be honored as Lenovo Community Heroes during halftime of the North Carolina Courage home match against NJ/NY Gotham FC on Sept. 24.
Starting STEM gives hands-on STEM curriculum and programming to elementary and middle school teachers and students in North Carolina by utilizing soccer examples to improve student interest and performance. Additionally, Starting STEM has provided educational workshops and free Lenovo tablets to teachers. The program will continue in 2023.
“Lenovo is proud to partner with NC Courage to invest in students and teachers inspiring future STEM industry leaders in our state,” said Lenovo NA Chief Marketing Officer Gerald Youngblood. “Through a unique combination of creative problem-solving and soccer-related activities, the Starting STEM program aims to help students discover new passions and develop skills they can apply on soccer fields and in STEM fields.”
The North Carolina Courage wrap up their 2022 regular-season home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they host NJ/NY Gotham FC at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets for the match are available for purchase at www.nccourage.com/tickets.
