Gilman Earns ACC Co-Defensive Player Of The Week Honors

PITTSBURGH – Freshman defender Jackson Gilman was recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference today, earning Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in a pair of wins over Howard and North Carolina last week for Pitt.

Gilman is just the fifth Panther in program history to earn ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors while also becoming the first Pitt freshman to do so. Overall, he is the 13th recipient of a weekly ACC award in program history and the second this season joining Bertin Jacquesson (Co-Offensive).

Gilman and the defensive back line for the Panthers had a strong week as they were able to secure back-to-back clean sheets as they notched the 5-0 victory over Howard at home and the 1-0 road win over North Carolina. The back line opened the week with a great showing against Howard as they allowed just one shot on goal. In the first road win in Chapel Hill in program history, the group allowed just two shots on goal to the talented Tar Heels.

The Panthers back line hasn’t allowed a goal in 244 consecutive minutes dating back to the first half of the Marshall game on Sept. 2. During that streak, Pitt has allowed just four shots on goal while netting seven goals of their own.

The freshman capped his strong performances with a total of five shots, three on goal, as the Panthers moved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play on the year. He currently leads all Pitt defenders with eight shots, five on target, on the season.

No. 7 Pitt returns to the pitch this Friday as they welcome NC State to Ambrose Urbanic Field for an ACC contest. First kick is set for 7:00 pm and the game will air live on ACC Network Extra.
