Collins, Anderson Take Home Weekly Honors

Anderson Named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week; Collins is Defender of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – California’s Angelina Anderson and Sydney Collins have earned Pac-12 Player of the Week recognition after two standout performances for the women’s soccer team this past week.

Anderson has been named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week while Collins earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. This is the fifth time that Anderson has been named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the week and the first weekly honor for Collins.

Anderson kept two shutouts this week as she did not allow a goal in 180 minutes of action. Anderson is now fourth all-time in school history with 23 shutouts. She now has three shutouts on the season as she made four saves this week across Cal’s 1-0 win over Santa Clara and tie with Cal State Fullerton. Anderson now has a shutout streak of 194:40 as she has been instrumental in Cal’s six match unbeaten streak.

Collins started and played 180 minutes this week as the Bears did not allow a goal despite Collins partnering with two different players at center back in the two games. Collins and the rest of the Bears’ defense only allowed opponents four shots on goal this week, as they suppressed opportunities and blocked shots. As Santa Clara was chasing the game in the second half on Sunday, Collins and the team ensured the Broncos only had one single shot in the final 30 minutes of the game.

The Bears will return to action on Thursday evening as the Bears leave California for the first time this season. Cal will take on UNLV at 6:30 p.m. from Peter Johann Soccer Stadium.
