Wolves will target a shock move for Andy Carroll if their appeal to sign Diego Costa is rejected, according to reports.
Bruno Lage has been left scrambling for an emergency attacking recruit at Molineux after £15.4million summer signing Sasa Kaladjzic suffered a cruciate ligament injury during his debut against Southampton on Saturday.
And Costa, best known in England for winning two Premier League titles with Chelsea, is available on a free transfer after departing Atletico Mineiro last December, meaning he quickly emerged as Wolves’ top target.

However, despite being scheduled to fly into the UK and undergo a medical on Wednesday, it is believed the 33-year-old has not been granted a work permit as he does not score enough points to receive one.
Wolves are said to have appealed the decision, but if that fails The Telegraph claim Carroll, 33, will be considered as an alternative.
The former Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle striker has been without a club since leaving West Brom upon the expiry of his contract in July, leaving him free to move elsewhere without a transfer fee required.

Should they pursue a deal, he would also be classed as a ‘homegrown’ signing for the Midlands club.
