Soccer Readies For No. 1 UNC and Rival Kansas


COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer prepares for an important week of the non-conference schedule as it welcomes No. 1 ranked North Carolina to Columbia Thursday, Sept. 1, followed by rival Kansas Sunday, Sept. 4. Both contests will be played at Walton Soccer Stadium at noon and 1 p.m., respectively. 

    Following a 3-1 home win over Southern Illinois, Aug. 25, the Tigers took a short trip to Omaha, Aug. 28, where they tied the Mavericks, 1-1. 

    UNC (4-0) most recently defeated Texas (Aug. 25), 2-0, and Baylor (Aug. 28), 6-0, to remain undefeated on the season. Furthermore, the Tar Heels have yet to give up a goal in 2022. 

    Meanwhile, the Jayhawks (3-1) topped Iowa 1-0, and Drake 3-1, Aug. 25 and 28, respectively, with their sole loss coming Aug. 18 against Ohio State (0-1).  

REWIND: The Salukis

    Mizzou came out on top against Southern Illinois, Aug. 25, scoring a season-high three goals in its 3-1 victory at home. Junior Grace Pettet opened the scoring in the second minute of action, earning the second goal of her career with both coming in back-to-back games. Pettet was assisted by sophomore Milena Fischer, who made her first start of the season. 

    The game was tied for less than a minute when sophomore Leah Selm scored an unassisted goal that would hold up as the game winner. Freshman Hannah Boughton added insurance in the 19th minute to put Mizzou up by two. The helper came from Fischer, earning her first multiple assist game since BYU, Sept. 11, 2021. 

REWIND: The Mavericks

    The Tigers ended their trip to Omaha, Neb. in a 1-1 tie against UNO, Aug. 28. Sophomore Milena Fischer earned her first goal of the 2022 season in the 17th minute, with freshman Hannah Boughton assisting. Mizzou earned 13 corners total in the contest but were unable to capitalize. Freshman Kylee Simmons totaled four shots, two on goal, one of which rang off the post in the 80th minute. Omaha was able to put away the tying goal in the 88th minute off a corner kick. 

WEEKEND OF FIRSTS

    The Tigers continue to earn their stripes, as sophomore Leah Selm and freshman Hannah Boughton both scored the first goals of their careers against Southern Illinois, Aug. 25. Selm went first, securing the game-winning goal and putting Mizzou up 2-1 in the ninth minute. Boughton…
