Barcelona head coach Xavi has heaped praise on Robert Lewandowski after his double in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Valladolid took his season tally to four already.
Lewandowski, who joined Barca from Bayern Munich in the off-season, was at the heart of most of their attacking play, scoring in both halves.
The Poland international opened the scoring by poking home at the back post from Rafinha’s left-foot cross.
Lewandowski added Barca’s third with a classy backheel finish from Ousmane Dembele’s pass, before the striker’s volley cannoned into the crossbar and fell to Sergi Roberto for their fourth in the 92nd minute.
“He’s an extraordinary player, spectacular,” Xavi said.
“He is a natural leader. It is wonderful to have him.
“He’s an example to the others in how he works for the team.”
Dembele was also impressive with two assists, providing the pass after a fine run for Pedri to score Barca’s second.
Jules Kounde also made his club debut, after the delay in his registration, and blocked a goal-bound Oscar Plano effort off the line.
“I’m happy with the victory,” Kounde said.
“It’s very good for the team to continue gaining confidence.
“Lewandowski is a striker who has it all, he shows it with his goals and his overall game. He’s one of the best in the world and his goals help us.”
