De Jong is owed £17million by Barcelona in amortisations and back payments but he and his agent will now hold talks with the club about restructuring his contract.
The 25-year-old was annoyed as he felt that Barcelona leaked that his contract could be illegal in order to pressurise him into a move to United.

However, de Jong is adamant that he doesn’t want to leave and he has constantly informed Barcelona of his stance even when they agreed a deal with United.
De Jong has been a Barcelona player since 2019 and has made 142 appearances for the club, winning the Copa del Rey in the 2020-21 campaign.
Manchester United have signed Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia in this transfer window.
United are eager to make further signings and have had a bid of £76million rejected for Ajax winger Antony, while they have also been linked with Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
