Giovani Lo Celso has admitted that his return to Villarreal on loan from Tottenham Hotspur was “worth the wait”.
On Sunday evening, Lo Celso secured his return to Villarreal on a season-long loan deal.
The midfielder spent the last few months of last season on loan at the Spanish side as he helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Lo Celso is among the players who has been hampered by Antonio Conte’s revolution at Tottenham.
The Argentina international was a regular for Spurs during his first two years at Spurs but it became immediately clear that he did not feature in Conte’s plans.
The 26-year-old has been linked with Fiorentina in recent weeks but Villarreal have beaten him to his signature.
Lo Celso has insisted that Villarreal is always where he “wanted to be”:
“The wait was worth it,” Lo Celso said (via The Evening Standard).
“I’m where I wanted to be. See you soon, Yellows. Endavant!”
This departure has come after Tottenham have worked non-stop to strengthen their squad before the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
They have spent big to sign the likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence.
Conte has kept faith with last season’s players at the start of this campaign as none of their new signings have yet made their full debut in the Premier League.
Without them, Spurs have fared well, beating Southampton and drawing at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
Before Lo Celso’s exit was confirmed, it was reported that he and three more Spurs players had been ‘banished’ from the first team by Conte.
Tanguy Ndombele has also been cast out. The Frenchman joined Spurs for an eye-watering initial fee of £55m in 2019.
The midfielder has failed under Jose Mourinho and now Conte as he has proven to be a significant let down.
This is a shame as the player definitely has the ability, but his move to Tottenham just has not worked out for anyone involved.
Ndombele had a spell at Lyon last term. He is now edging closer to joining Serie A outfit Napoli on loan.
Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Napoli and Spurs are ‘very close to an agreement’.
This transfer appeals to Ndombele as he is ‘eager to travel’ to Italy to complete the move.
The one issue in need of ironing out is that the France international earns €8m-per-year at Tottenham but Napoli only want to pay €4m.
