Frank Lampard’s Everton are currently the side in ‘pole position’ to sign Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet following the latter’s relegation.
Cornet had spent his whole career playing in France prior to his move to Burnley last summer. They paid around £12.5m to sign him from Lyon.
The forward was only able to make 26 appearances in the Premier League in his debut season, but he shone scoring nine times in the league.

The Ivory Coast was one of their only standout players in what was a torrid season for the Clarets. Their fortunes improved while Mike Jackson was in charge, but they suffered relegation on the final day of the campaign.
Cornet has a £17.5m release clause in his contract and he is expected to depart Burnley before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Everton are among the clubs interested and they are in ‘pole position’ to sign Cornet, according to Ignazio Genuardi (via Sport Witness).
The Toffees need reinforcements in attacking areas after Richarlison was sold to Tottenham for £60m earlier this summer. The three players they have brought in are James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil.
If Genuardi is to be believed, Cornet is primed to be Everton’s third signing from Burnley this summer.
He is reporting that the Premier League outfit have ‘found an agreement’ on a five-year contract which is worth around £67,000-a-week.
Talks with Burnley are ‘more complicated’, though. This is as Everton are looking to pay an initial £14.2m plus £3.3m in add-ons to reach the player’s £17.5m clause.
This proposal is understood to have been turned down by Burnley, who are demanding a larger fixed fee. The report notes that West Ham and Nottm Forest are also interested in the attacker.
Cornet will not be involved in Burnley’s opening Championship game of the 2021/22 season against Huddersfield Town on Friday night.
