Chelsea ‘again most interested’ in €70m ‘priority’ after failing to sign Man City defender

Chelsea target Kounde

According to reports, Chelsea are ‘again most interested’ in signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer though Barcelona and PSG also want him.

The Frenchman has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe in recent seasons.

Kounde has featured 133 times for Sevilla over the past three seasons. He helped them win the Europe League at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo, please go to Saudi Arabia, we’ve had quite enough of you

The 23-year-old has been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months. Chelsea have already signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.

They were also keen to bring in Man City’s Nathan Ake. This transfer is now off the table though as the terms offered by Chelsea ‘were not right’.

ABC Sevilla are now reporting that Kounde is now a ‘priority’ for Chelsea again.

The defender has a £69m release clause though it has been stated that Sevilla want £59m for him this summer.

Chelsea are ‘most interested’ in him but Barcelona and PSG are also tracking him.

Sevilla are in a position to ‘put pressure on his suitors’ given his release clause and that he is under contract until 2024.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are keen reportedly on signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane this summer.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Bayern Munich winger Sane is a target for Arsenal despite a move to La Liga being “more likely”.

Jacobs told The Done Deal Show: “Yeah I mean Sane to Chelsea is a kind of link that has been developed after Chelsea realised they wouldn’t get Gnabry and the Gnabry thing was a bit of a non-starter because he was always going to sign a new deal,” Jacobs said.

“The Sane thing is something to watch in the coming weeks. It’s not a link that I have yet put to sources and contracts other than a month ago, and the intonation was that Real Madrid might come in for Sane and I think that they would consider it if another club made a move.

“A move to La Liga could be more likely, I’ve not heard rumblings at the Chelsea end, I’ve actually heard more rumblings from Arsenal that this was a name being considered at the beginning of the window, but then they turned their attentions to Raphinha.”
