The Man Utd board think Anthony Martial could save the club a lot of money in the transfer market this summer, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag has a big job ahead of him if he wants to get the Red Devils battling again for a top-four position after they were well off the pace last term.
They have strengthened with the addition of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, while they are expected to seal a deal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez in the coming days.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and free agent Christian Eriksen are two other players that could join this summer but the Red Devils don’t appear any closer to deals for any forward players.
There has been speculation that Ajax winger Antony could move to Old Trafford but his huge £60m price tag had reportedly been putting off Man Utd.
And now talkSPORT claim that the Man Utd hierarchy believe Martial ‘can save them a fortune in the transfer market this summer by reviving his Old Trafford career’.
The France international fell out of favour under interim boss Ralf Rangnick last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Sevilla.
Martial spent most of his time in Spain injured or on the bench and scored just once in 12 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit.
However, pre-season has started well for Martial with the 26-year-old scoring in United’s 4-0 victory over Liverpool in Bangkok.
The report adds:
‘New manager Erik ten Hag is being encouraged by the United hierarchy to find a role for the Frenchman, still only 26, after being priced out of a move for Ajax wide-man Antony.
‘Ten Hag was keen for the Brazilian to follow him to the Premier League, but it is looking increasingly unlikely United will meet Ajax’s £60m valuation unless wantaway Cristiano Ronaldo leaves.’
Sevilla president Jose Castro confirmed in May that they weren’t interested in a permanent deal for Martial after his loan move “didn’t work”.
Castro said: “Anthony Martial will return to Man United. We spent important money on him but it didn’t work. Also, he had injuries and we’re not going to buy him on a permanent deal.”
