Nottingham Forest reach ‘full agreement’ with Bundesliga side Mainz for £15m defender

Reported Nottingham Forest target Moussa Niakhate preparing to take a throw-in

Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest are reportedly close to announcing the signing of Mainz captain Moussa Niakhate.

The French centre-half was given the Mainz captaincy ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Last term, he scored four goals in 30 league appearances as his side finished eighth in the Bundesliga.

The 26-year-old has played 135 times in total for the German club but is out of contract in 2023.

And according to transfer expect Fabrizio Romano, Niakhate is on his way to the Premier League.

Newly promoted Nottingham Forest have reached a “full agreement” with Mainz and will pay £10million plus £5m in add-ons for the former Valenciennes man.

The player will complete his medical “this week” as the Reds continue their ambitious summer transfer window.

They have already broke their transfer record by bringing in Taiwo Awoniyi from fellow Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin for over £17m.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has joined on a season-long loan with Brice Samba reportedly headed for the exit door.

Niakhate will become Forest’s fourth signing of the summer after they also completed the signing of 22-year-old French right-back Giulian Biancone for £9m.

Elsewhere, Tottenham have reportedly ‘asked’ FC Barcelona about signing Dutch forward Memphis Depay this summer.

The ex-Manchester United player was apparently brought up in discussions over Spurs’ deal to sign Clement Lenglet.

Spanish outlet Sport claim that Spurs ‘asked’ about Depay in those talks, with their interest in the 28-year-old ‘going back several months’.

The news comes after it was reported over the weekend that a ‘low ranked’ club in England have put an offer on the table for the Netherlands international.

Sport claim that Barcelona are willing to sell Depay if they receive €20m for him. He is said to be aware of this and has told his representatives to find him a new club this summer.
