Robert Lewandowski believes it is ‘out of the question’ for him to return to training at Bayern Munich, and could go on strike to get his Barcelona move, according to his former agent.

The 33-year-old Poland forward wants a new challenge after eight successful years at the Allianz Arena, and has been vocal about his wish to leave Julian Nagelsmann’s Bayern.

With pre-season training set to begin on July 12, Lewandowski has no intention of returning to the club, and may go on strike to force a move, according to his former agent Maik Barthel.

Barthel told SportBild it was a trick he previously considered using when he wanted to leave Borussia Dortmund back in 2013.

‘It was already considered that he would not appear for training,’ Barthel revealed, although he did play out that season before moving to Bayern the following year.

Nine years after his potential walkout at Dortmund, Bathel added on the current situation: ‘I trust Robert not to show up for training…’

However, Bayern Honorary President Uli Hoeness, when asked about the potential strike, said: ‘I don’t think about that at all. He has a contract, and we are a constitutional state. We have decided that we will not let him go. Unless we could have found a replacement halfway.’

Bayern’s summer signing Sadio Mane, acquired from Liverpool for a reported €32million (£27.4m), is thought to be a direct replacement for Lewandowski,  should he get his wish to leave Germany.
