Man Utd Clarify Cristiano Ronaldo Is Not Up For Sale

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is adamant superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has a role to play next season at the club and isn’t for sale.

The 37-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, having re-joined the club in August last year on a two-year deal.

Ronaldo netted 24 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for United last season, but the side failed to finish in the top four or win any silverware.

Ten Hag has been appointed amid that underachievement, with speculation around Ronaldo coming as he enters the latter stages of his career, due to turn 38 in February.

“Of course,” ten Hag said when asked if Ronaldo fits into his project. He added “goals” when asked what he brings.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, who has several high-profile clients, had reportedly met with new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly last week. There’s also been talk of a move to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

The Portuguese was recently glowing in his praise for the new Dutch manager, who led Ajax to three Eredivisie titles after taking over in 2017.

“I know he did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time,” Ronaldo said.

“Things need to change the way he wants. I hope we have success of course because if you have success all of Manchester are going to have success as well. So I wish him the best.

“We are happy and excited, not only the players but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that next year we’re going to win trophies.”
