Everton backed to mount push for Europe under Lampard

Frank Lampard’s Everton have been backed to “do amazing things” during the 2022/23 season if they “play with confidence and emotion”.

Former Derby County and Chelsea boss Lampard replaced Rafael Benitez at Everton on January 31. They were four points clear of safety in 16th when he took over.

The Toffees have won eight of his 21 games in charge across all competitions. He guided the club to safety with one Premier League game to go.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have been linked with moves away from Everton of late.

Louis Saha scored 35 goals in 115 appearances for Everton up until 2012. He thinks his former club could potentially “do amazing things next year”:

“A lot of teams in the Premier League can be in the top six and become the challenger to the top four and Everton can be one of those teams, it just depends how you start the season and how well you manage the confidence within the team,” Saha told BoyleSports (via The Metro).

“I think Frank Lampard has managed the situation of injuries and fixture congestion really well and I believe if they play with confidence and emotion, Everton can do amazing things next year.

“The Premier League is so tough. It’s not just about whether you have the quality, it’s also about communicating and having that team spirit that you build throughout the season and emphasise with the fans. Those are the things that make a strong side.

“Frank Lampard has a lot of quality players in his team, especially the strikers so the fans should have hope, but they have to fix the defence.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic have now acknowledged that Tottenham have ‘showing the most willingness’ to buy Richarlison.

Though they note that there are ‘several interested parties’ and Tottenham are ‘yet to lodge an official bid’ for him.

It is claimed that ‘Everton’s valuation comfortably exceeds £50 million’ and ‘no club has shown the appetite to pay those sorts of sums’.

Richarlison thinks his ‘next step needs to be planned carefully’, as a ‘risky move needs to be avoided’.
