June 17, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL – Back from the international break, CF Montréal (7-5-2) will host expansion side Austin FC (7-4-3) this Saturday at 7:30pm at Stade Saputo (TVA Sports, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690).
The Montrealers will be returning to the pitch following a three-week break which saw no less than 12 players from the Club selected to represent their respective nations in international competition.
With Montreal’s 4-3 victory over FC Cincinnati on May 28, the Club’s seventh win of the season, the team currently sits third in the Eastern Conference.
In its first 14 matches of 2022, Montreal has secured 23 points, the second-highest points total since its MLS debut (29 points in 14 games in 2013). The squad also boasts the most potent attack in the East, having tallied 28 goals so far.
Saturday will also mark the first-ever meeting between Montreal and Austin. Fourth in the Western Conference, the visitors have won just one of their last five MLS contests, including a 4-1 loss to the LA Galaxy most recently. After averaging less than one goal against per game in its first nine outings of 2022, Austin has conceded 10 times in its last five.
Saturday’s match will kick off a stretch of four games in 12 days for Montreal. After Austin, Montreal will fly to Toronto for its Canadian Championship semifinal tilt on Wednesday at 7pm. The team will then return to Stade Saputo to face Charlotte on Saturday, June 25, at 7:30 pm, before facing the Sounders in Seattle on Wednesday, June 29, at 10pm.
