Langford, BC – Pacific FC has signed central midfielder Luca Ricci as the squad plans for four home matches in May. Ricci, 24, joins Pacific on a U Sports contract after a successful career to date with the in the Montreal Impact, now CF Montreal Academy.
“Luca is a great addition to Pacific and has adapted well into our environment and gets along well with the other players,” said James Merriman, head coach, Pacific FC. “We are looking forward to what he will bring to the squad this season.”
Ricci has spent time in professional environments in the USL Championship with Phoenix Rising FC in 2018 and Ottawa Fury FC in 2019. His first-round selection to Pacific in January 2022 comes off a successful stint in U Sports. The Montreal-born midfielder recently helped lead the University of Montreal to a victory in the U Sports Men’s Soccer Championship in November 2021 and was subsequently named to the tournament all-star team.
Ricci is known for his comfort on the ball, combining well with teammates and picking a final pass. He joins the Trident’s experienced midfielders Josh Heard, Matthew Baldisimo and Kunle Dada-Luke and newcomers Kamron Habibullah, Umaro Blade and Georges Mukumbilwa.
Pacific FC has had a successful start to their 2022 campaign with a 4-1-1 record earning them the top of the table spot for the Canadian Premier League. The team will host four matches at Starlight Stadium in the coming weeks including a Canadian Championship quarter finals against York United FC. The May schedule includes the following matches:
– Saturday, May 14, versus FC Edmonton
– Friday, May 20 versus York United FC
– Wednesday, May 25 versus York United FC (Canadian Championship match)
– Saturday, May 28 versus Valour FC
“Everyone on our squad is motivated and although we know it’s early in the season we are happy with a lot of things we’ve done over these first matches,” said Merriman.
