May 12, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS – With Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Soccer For All Week taking place from May 12-23, Austin FC is joining the league-wide initiative which reinforces the collective commitment to drive positive social change, fosters more inclusive and equitable communities, and supports an end to discrimination.
Among various year-long initiatives, four (4) Austin FC initiatives taking place on or around Soccer for All Week underscore the Club’s commitment to foster inclusive environments through soccer in the Central Texas community.
Clinics 4ATX Presented By St. David’s HealthCare provide seven (7) free soccer clinics for children aged 5 to 11 across Austin. Participants get the chance to practice soccer skills, to interact with Austin FC players, and to leave with their own soccer ball.
This Saturday, May 14, Austin FC and founding partner Netspend will support Fútbol Rápido, a day of soccer clinics organized by local nonprofit Austin Voices and benefitting the Navarro High School Athletic Department. The two organizations will also donate Verde nets.
Austin FC and Special Olympics Texas officially launched the Club’s Unified Team with a signing day and first practice at St. David’s Performance Center on April 24. Providing a space where players with and without disabilities can come together through soccer, the Unified Team will play its first match on June 25 against the FC Dallas Unified Team.
Verde Leaders, a feature program of Austin FC’s nonprofit arm 4ATX Foundation, is a positive youth development program that uses soccer to empower students from low-income communities to find success on the soccer pitch, in the classroom, and in life. To mark the end of the Spring 2022 season, Verde Leaders students will engage in an exhibition match held at Q2 Stadium on May 23.
