SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes (1-4-3; 6 pts.) will face New York City FC (3-3-1; 10 pts.) at Yankee Stadium today at 10 a.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
San Jose is coming off two wins last week, first defeating Bay Cities FC 5-0 in the U.S. Open Cup Third Round on Tuesday before earning a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday. Midfielder Cristian Espinoza tallied three goals and an assist vs. Seattle to earn MLS Player of the Week honors.
NYCFC is the defending MLS Cup champions. After winning just once in their first five matches, NYC has earned consecutive victories over Real Salt Lake (W 6-0) and Toronto FC (W 5-4), scoring 11 goals in those two matches. The club is led by forward Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos, who is among the league leaders with five goals this season after being named a finalist for the Landon Donovan Most Valuable Player Award in 2021.
